Dr. Michail Shafir, MD MPH FACS is a Clinical Professor of Surgery and Oncological Sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.

He is a graduate of the Surgery Residency program at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and specializes in Surgical Oncology for which he trained at the Gustave Roussy Cancer Institute in France. He has been a Junior Fellow of the American Cancer Society, is a former President of the New York Cancer Society and a former President of the New York Surgical Society. Presently graduated as a Master in Public Health, devoting himself to cancer prevention and early detection in different populations.

Dr. Shafir is a member of the major surgical and oncological societies, such as the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology. Dr Shafir is a former member of the Surgery Committee of CALGB, a major national cooperative group for Clinical Trials in Oncology. He is a Surgical Consultant for the Carcinoid Cancer Foundation. He is the author of numerous scientific publications and his work has been presented in many national and international conferences.

Dr Shafir specializes in Surgery for tumors, benign and malignant and coordinates all aspects of cancer care for his patients. He provides advice for prevention and early detection of cancer for healthy persons and patients relatives, "tailoring" to each individual, according to his/her risk factors. His main clinical interests focus on breast cancer, malignant melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas and carcinoid/neuroendocrine tumors, including cryosurgery and radiofrequency ablation of liver tumors.

He speaks French, Spanish and Russian.
